
Dr Daniel Casanova
Daniel Casanova MD, PhD, FACS, FEBT, is Professor Surgery at University Hospital Valdecilla, University of Cantabria in Santander, Spain. MD degree from University Zaragoza, and Residency in General and Digestive Surgery at Clinica Puerta de Hierro in Madrid. In 1978, Assistant Professor of Surgery Hospital Valdecilla in Santander. Later he did his training in Transplantation at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis in 1986, and 1991-92. Upon his return to Spain he worked in the Renal Transplant program, having developed the Liver and Pancreas Transplant programs . Professor of Surgery in 1992, and Full Professor of Surgery in 2002 at University of Cantabria. His interests have been abdominal transplants, HBP and Endocrine Surgery. In 2005 he started his work in the Transplant Division of UEMS, having been Secretary of Division from 2008-2012, and President from 2012-2019. In 2013 he was appointed Honorary Professor of the Department of Surgery and Cancer at Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial College, London. Delegate to the European Section of Surgery of the UEMS. Honorary Member of the Royal College Surgeons of Edinburgh and Spanish Association of Surgeons. Last February he was elected president of the Section of Surgery of the UEMS.
