
Dr Gaya Spolverato
Dr. Gaya Spolverato received her undergraduate and medical degrees from University of Padova, Italy and completed her surgical training at the University of Padova and Verona. During the residency in general surgery she spent eighteen months at the Johns Hopkins Hospital as a surgical oncology research fellow, under the supervision of Dr. Timothy Pawlik. Dr. Spolverato completed her training in surgical oncology as international surgical oncology fellow at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and is now assistant professor of surgery at the University of Padova, Italy and surgical oncologist at the University Hospital of Padova. Dr. Spolverato’s research focuses on gastrointestinal and hepatopancreaticobiliary diseases, with a particular interest on models predictive of cure, which can assist patients and surgeons in therapeutic decision making. Dr. Spolverato has a demonstrated record of successful and productive research projects in this field and is part of the Executive Board of the Italian Society of Surgical Oncology. Dr. Spolverato has published over 170 papers and presented her research projects at both national and international meetings, winning international research awards. Dr. Spolverato is a member of a number of professional societies and is the co-founder and President of Women In Surgery Italia.
